By using homecostbook you accept the terms below. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

Status of this document. This is a structural draft prepared by the site operator, covering the sections such a document is normally expected to cover. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer, and it should be before this site carries advertising or generates revenue. Its enforceability is not something we can assert.

What this site is

homecostbook publishes research about what gutter work costs in the United States. It is a reference publication. It is not a contractor, not a broker, not an estimator, and not a marketplace. We do not perform work, quote for work, arrange work, or take any commission on work.

About the cost figures — read this one

This is the term that actually matters on a site like this, so it is not buried at the bottom.

Every cost figure on this site is an estimate drawn from published sources, not a quote. It is not an offer, not a valuation, and not a professional estimate for your property. Your actual price will depend on your home’s access, condition, roofline, local labour rates, the season, and which contractor you ask. Two honest contractors can quote differently for the same job.

Specifically:

  • Figures are national. We publish no regional adjustment, because we have not been able to source one we would stand behind. If you are somewhere expensive, our figures will read low.
  • Derived totals are our arithmetic, not published statistics. Where we multiply a sourced rate to produce a total, we show the working so you can redo it. That working is the claim; the total is just its result.
  • Where we have no verified figure, we show a gap rather than a number. A blank on this site is deliberate. It means we could not confirm a figure to our own standard, and we would rather show you nothing than show you something we have not checked.
  • Sources can be wrong, and sources disagree. We record disagreement rather than averaging it away, and we name and date every source. Our how we calculate costs page sets out the method in full, including its limitations.

We work hard on accuracy and we correct errors promptly when they are pointed out. We do not warrant that any figure is accurate, current or applicable to your situation. Always get at least three written quotes before committing to work. If a figure here conflicts with a quote in your hand, the quote is the real number.

If you think something here is wrong, please tell us. Corrections are welcome and are the fastest way this site improves.

No professional relationship

Using this site does not create any professional, advisory, contractual or fiduciary relationship between you and us. Nothing here is legal, financial, insurance, engineering or construction advice.

We are not a licensed contractor. Content about installation, repair or maintenance is general information, not instructions for your property. Work at height is dangerous and gutter work in particular involves ladders, which are a leading cause of serious injury in home maintenance. Decisions about whether to do such work yourself are yours alone, and where we suggest hiring a professional we mean it.

Building codes, permit requirements and drainage rules vary by jurisdiction and change. Check locally.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, homecostbook and its operator are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or your reliance on anything published on it. That includes, without limitation, money spent or not spent, work commissioned or not commissioned, contracts entered into, and any indirect or consequential loss.

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of accuracy, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

We link out to publishers, suppliers, retailers, manufacturers and government sources, because a cost figure without a link to its source is not much of a citation. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, their accuracy, their availability or their privacy practices. A link is a citation, not an endorsement, and in several places on this site we link to a source specifically in order to explain why we do not trust its figure.

Your use of the site

You may read, print and share this site freely, and quote from it with attribution and a link. Please do not:

  • republish substantial portions as your own work;
  • scrape the site at a rate that degrades it for other people;
  • present our figures as a quote, an appraisal, or the output of a licensed professional;
  • use the site in any unlawful way.

Content on this site is © Suchetan S Sarkar unless stated otherwise. Figures we cite belong to the publishers we cite them from, and those publishers’ own terms apply to their material.

There is currently no advertising and there are no affiliate links on this site. If either is introduced, it will be disclosed — advertising in the privacy policy, and any affiliate relationship next to the link itself rather than only in a footer. Commercial relationships will not determine what this site recommends.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page will change when we do, and continuing to use the site after that means you accept the revised terms. We do not backdate.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, where the site is operated, and the courts of India shall have jurisdiction, except where consumer protection law in your own country of residence gives you rights that cannot be overridden by this clause. Nothing here affects mandatory consumer rights available to you locally.
