homecostbook publishes what gutter work actually costs in the United States, so that a homeowner holding a contractor’s quote can tell whether it is fair.

The site is run by Suchetan S Sarkar. One person, not a company, not a contractor.

Where the expertise comes from, and where it doesn’t

This matters more than the usual about-page boilerplate, so here it is plainly.

I am not a roofer or a gutter installer. I have never hung a gutter. If you want advice on how to do the work, this is not the right site and I would rather say so than imply otherwise.

What I actually do is compile published cost data and check it. Material prices, labour rates from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, and published contractor cost surveys, each recorded with its publisher and its publication date, and each re-checked against the original source before any figure appears on a page.

That is a narrower claim than “30 years in the trade”, and it is a true one. A fabricated tradesman persona would be easy to write and easy to catch, and it would destroy the only thing this site has to offer.

What “checked” means here

Every figure in our cost model carries a verification status. Only figures marked verified — meaning somebody opened the cited source and confirmed the number matched — are allowed to appear on a page. Figures that are merely cited, or that our sources disagree about, are held back and shown as unresolved rather than published with a caveat.

You will therefore sometimes see a gap on this site where a competitor shows a confident number. That gap is deliberate. A price nobody has checked is exactly as risky to you as a price nobody sourced, because you would take either one into a negotiation.

What this site will not do

• No invented prices. If a figure is not traceable to a dated, named source, it does not go on the site, even as a placeholder.
• No gated results. Cost tools here give you the full answer without asking for your email first.
• No rankings we have not earned. We do not publish “best product” lists based on nothing. Where we compare categories, we explain the physical reason one behaves differently from another, so you can check the reasoning yourself.
• No pretending guards are maintenance-free, or any other claim that happens to suit whoever is selling.

Corrections

If a figure here is wrong, I want to know, and I will change it and say that it changed. Get in touch.
